HazLoc Solutions — Hazardous Location Equipment for Oil & Gas, Mining, Chemical & Marine
Key takeaways
- Hazardous locations are classified by zone (gas: 0/1/2) or division (Class I Div 1/2), plus gas group (IIA/IIB/IIC) and temperature class (T1–T6) — every equipment choice starts from this classification.
- XINCA supplies the full hazardous-area kit from one source: portable gas detectors, explosion-proof cameras and intrinsically safe phones/body cams.
- Certification is per model and per mark — ATEX, IECEx, Ex, MA/KA, CCC are not interchangeable and never assumed. Certificates are available on request for every listed SKU.
- Shop listings carry full specs and worldwide shipping; this hub carries the education layer (zones, marks, use cases).
What is a hazardous location?
A hazardous location (HazLoc, or Ex-area) is any area where an explosive atmosphere — gas, vapour, mist or combustible dust — may occur in quantities that require special equipment. Equipment used there must be designed so it cannot ignite the atmosphere, even under fault.
HazLoc equipment is selected on three axes:
1. Zone or Division (how often the hazard is present)
| Classification | Gas / vapour / mist | Combustible dust | Typical examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 0 / Zone 20 | Present continuously or for long periods | Dust cloud present continuously | Inside storage tanks, hoppers |
| Zone 1 / Zone 21 | Likely to occur in normal operation | Dust cloud likely in normal operation | Pump rooms, paint booths, bagging lines |
| Zone 2 / Zone 22 | Not likely, and only briefly if it does | Dust cloud not likely, brief if present | Flanges, valve areas, sample points |
| Class I Div 1 (NEC) | Equivalent to Zone 0 + Zone 1 | — | North-American refineries |
| Class I Div 2 (NEC) | Equivalent to Zone 2 | — | North-American plants |
2. Gas group (how easily the gas ignites)
- Group IIA — propane-like (least sensitive, e.g. most hydrocarbons)
- Group IIB — ethylene-like (e.g. ethylene, hydrogen sulphide)
- Group IIC — hydrogen/acetylene-like (most sensitive; equipment certified IIC also covers IIA/IIB)
- Group I — mining (firedamp/methane, MA/KA context)
- Group III — combustible dusts (IIIB = non-conductive dust, IIIC = conductive dust)
3. Temperature class (auto-ignition temperature of the atmosphere)
| Class | Max surface temp | Gas auto-ignition |
|---|---|---|
| T1 | 450 °C | ≥ 450 °C |
| T2 | 300 °C | ≥ 300 °C |
| T3 | 200 °C | ≥ 200 °C |
| T4 | 135 °C | ≥ 135 °C |
| T5 | 100 °C | ≥ 100 °C |
| T6 | 85 °C | ≥ 85 °C |
A device marked for a lower T-class (e.g. T4) is safe for any gas that needs the same or higher T-class.
The XINCA hazardous-area kit
One supplier for the whole picture — detection, documentation and communication:
| Kit part | Equipment | Why the buyer needs it |
|---|---|---|
| Detect | Portable gas detectors (4-gas, single-gas, pump & diffusion) | Permit-to-work gas testing, confined-space entry, leak sniffing, personal monitoring |
| Document | Explosion-proof cameras (DSLR, compact, body cam) | Inspection evidence, incident documentation, surveillance in Zone 1/21 areas |
| Communicate | Intrinsically safe 5G phones & tablets, 4G body cams | Comms in hazardous areas, mining (MA/KA) and offshore use |
Industry solutions
- Oil & gas / petrochemical — refinery and terminal gas testing, explosion-proof surveillance, inspection photography in Zone 1 areas.
- Coal & metal mining — underground gas testing, MA/KA-compliant communication and evidence capture.
- Chemical & pharmaceutical — confined-space entry testing (NH₃, H₂S, O₂, LEL), cleanroom gas monitoring.
- Marine & offshore — offshore inspection kits (detector + camera), IP/Ex combined use.
- Power & utility — substation and utility gas-risk assessment (SF₆, CO₂, O₂).
